Universal question

-

In his desire to prove the universe could only have come into existence in a way which fits comfortably within his own belief system, John Fong (letters, February 20) once again assails our intellect with the assertion that ‘‘God done it’’. The lack of evidential certainty by science as to the creation of the universe is cited by Mr Fong as proof positive that his belief trumps all others. After all, he claims (without evidence of course) that you can’t create something from nothing. He fails miserably, once again, to tell the rest of us ignorant beings how his God could have been created from nothing also. If God can be created from nothing then why not the universe? Perhaps he would argue that God has always existed. If so, again why not the universe?

While science admits it lacks all the necessary evidence to prove the origins of the universe, Mr Fong sees no irony in the fact he has even less evidence for his own origins beliefs, and indeed relies exclusively on the rambling, and sometimes incoherent writings, of ignorant goat herding farmers belonging to an aggressive and agricultural Middle Eastern tribe thousands of years ago.
