Reid ruled out for rest of EPL campaign

-

All Whites captain Winston Reid has been ruled out for the rest of the English Premier League season after being stretchered off the field with an oxygen mask in West Ham United’s 4-1 defeat at Swansea City last weekend.

Reid’s injury looked nasty as he was knocked unconscious and twisted his knee when his foot got stuck in the turf.

West Ham’s last game of their Premier League campaign is at home to Everton on May 14, so the 29-year-old defender will be out of action for at least two months.

Reid’s club haven’t confirmed the full extent or further details of his injury after reports in the UK said the Kiwi will miss the rest of West Ham’s season.

West Ham manager David Moyes said they were more concerned about Reid’s knee after it twisted badly.

‘‘Winston has been knocked unconscious and concussed and it’s his secondary injury we’re more worried about,’’ he said after their loss to Swansea.

New Zealand play a friendly behind closed doors against Canada in Spain on March 24, which Reid will certainly not be involved in as new All Whites coach Fritz Schmid takes charge of the team for the first time.

Losing the experienced Reid is a big blow for West Ham in their battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Their heavy defeat to relegation rivals Swansea left the Hammers in 14th place and just three points above the drop.
