Some sweet scones to savour

-

Put the apron back in the drawer and save the Edmonds recipe for another day, because when it comes to delicious scones, Hamilton hospitality spots have you covered.

Whether you’re a savoury scone eater, or like yours slathered in cream and jam, we’ve rounded up the best offerings from around town to present you with the following list.

Date and citrus

Milton’s is famous for its sweet pies, but that doesn’t mean it’s not equally as good at scones. Made in house, the date and citrus are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside – which true scone connoisseurs will know is a tricky balance to achieve.

Dustings of citrus sugar and icing sugar are the finishing touches, so smear on some butter and enjoy the chill vibes that come with eating at Milton’s.

Rosemary and feta

Experts in mixing up your usual scone flavours, GG’s in Lovegrove Lane takes the baking business to a new level in its busy kitchen. The chefs are consistently throwing new things at your taste buds so expect to find creative scone flavours such as beetroot, fennel and feta, rosemary and feta or carrot, caraway and feta.

Date and custard

Whoever thought all the possible scone recipes have already been invented, think again. The River Kitchen has taken the humble doughy treat to an all new level by filling the sweet version with custard and date or blueberry and date.

The busy staff behind the counter will tell you people come in specifically for these, so pair one with an organic milk coffee and join the craze yourself.

Cheese and Cajun

Chunky as you like but surprisingly low fat, Grey Street Kitchen’s scones are free of cream, milk or butter but generous on the cheese.

The secret ingredient of a touch of Cajun spice makes them a fun alternative to your cheesy classic, and any ceramic enthusiast will be pleased to see they’re served on Wundaire’s beautiful plates.

Date and orange

They are just four weeks into their new venture, but The Lost Boys certainly knows how to impress you with the simple things.

Taking the super tasty date and orange scone from their baker mates at Volare, the team here then toast it and pair it with Raglan coconut yoghurt as well as homemade chia jam with raspberry, lemon and maple.

Paired with a well crafted flat white, it may just suddenly become your favourite meal to start the day.
