Owners pay for council error

Why aren’t we surprised that another council seems to have bungled consents and expects homeowners to pay? This time it is the Waikato District Council and it follows a fraud investigation into the council last year that identified ‘‘a number of process issues’’ (Stuff 18/8/2017).

Earlier this year, I sent a written complaint to CEO Gavin Ion about what in my opinion was incompetence in the consent process. I found the response less than satisfactory.

We need heads to roll. Next year we must elect councillors who will stand up against staff and actually represent us.
