Blazing truck on highway

A truck went up in flames on State Highway 2 north of Tauranga. The Mainfreight truck and trailer unit caught fire just after 5.25am yesterday, on the highway between Omokoroa and Katikati, Fire and Emergency northern communications shift manager Daniel Nicholson said. Three fire crews and a water tanker were called to the scene. Nicholson said the driver appeared to be out and okay. Police said the road was initially closed but opened to one lane in each direction from 6.40am. At 10am motorists reported traffic was still heavy and down to one lane.
