Improving the health of your stock
Animal health is vital for any farmer.
Seaweed just might be the answer when farmers are trying to improve the health and wellbeing of their animals.
It might be an alternative to conventional products.
AgriSea New Zealand has a long-standing reputation for production of seaweed-based animal products.
AgriSea field consultant Mark Powick, says seaweed is the source of a wide range of minerals, vitamins, proteins, amino acids and other naturally occurring compounds.
‘‘Because these are naturally occurring it makes them readily available for uptake by animals.
‘‘These all combine to make seaweed a complete health tonic for a wide variety of animals from poultry through to horses, alpacas and all animals in between without the risk of toxicity.
Being a totally natural product which, has been cold brewed, 98 per cent of the trace elements and vitamins can be absorbed by the animal if they are needed.
It provides a balanced range of trace elements and compounds that will improve and enhance general health and well-being in the animals.
He says the added benefit for the animals comes from the provision of the wide range of compounds provided in balance which improves the health and immune status of the animal without the fear of toxic levels being reached as the animal will only take up that compound it requires and not in excess.
The seaweed is a very palatable product with no preservatives or additives.
Excellent for adult and young stock equally.
AgriSea’s liquid seaweed product, its primary product can be fed in a variety of ways, can be drenched, added to water systems through metered delivery systems, or pita dispensers. It can be added in solid form to in shed feeding systems, or mixed in meal.
It can be fed as a pellet, or in the salt block.
As it is so palatable, and as is a totally natural, the product can be added with other products without losing either products efficacy.
‘‘There are no side effects,’’ says Powick. ‘‘Because it is a totally natural product, which has been cold brewed and is BioGro certified, there are no side effects from giving our product to animals and it has the added advantage of no toxicity from over administering as animals will only take up what they require.’’
The raw product – seaweed – [Ecklonia radiate], is hand harvested by contract collectors from the remote East coast beaches of the North Island. It is certified by The Seaweed Association of NZ as being sustainably harvested.
