Eco projects

Lakeside walkways and native plantings are part of upcoming ecological plans at Waikato District Council. Previous work at Lake Waikare, near Te Kauwhata, has led to a grant of up to $145,000 from the Waikato River Authority and a further $25,000 from Trust Waikato. Work on Lake Rotokauri, northwest of Hamilton City, has made council a finalist in the Society for Ecological Restoration Australasia awards. Shipherd Bush in Otaua, north of Port Waikato, also has repaired fencing and pedestrian access paid from budget set aside for a community project.
