Cat shooting theory

-

The Waikato Times featured a front page article (6/12/2018) informing readers of a Hamilton couple considering a move after three of their beloved cats were fatally shot.

Not known is the identity of the shooter nor the reason why the moggies were deprived of some of their nine lives.

I would like to offer the readership a thought that the couple may have been ‘‘neighbours from hell’’ for somebody.

Kellie Given is reported to have said: ‘‘Usually we don’t like to keep them (cats) inside, we like them to be able to do whatever they want – come and go as they please like a normal cat.’’

Well, Kellie, that may have been exactly what they did but, unfortunately, on some neighbouring properties.

Have you ever been the recipient of a cat deciding to mark your backdoor step as part of its territory by spraying it on a daily basis leaving you to clean up and put up with the stink?

Have you ever been a keen gardener with a veggie patch and had your newly sown row of carrots dug up and used as a feline toilet?

One or two very young and tender lettuce plants fall victim to the toileting habits of your neighbour’s cat?

Well overdue Government action is needed to legislate for licensed breeders only plus one cat per home.
