Slater ‘bankrupt’

-

Political blogger Cameron Slater, pictured, declared bankruptcy because he was severely incapacitated from a stroke. A post on his Whale Oil blog yesterday said Slater remained ‘‘severely incapacitated and consequently is unable to work’’. ‘‘His rehabilitation continues to make slow progress; but it is all-consuming and extremely tiring,’’ the post read. Because he is not able to garner an income, Slater would be declaring bankruptcy, according to the post. Slater is currently embroiled in a number of defamation proceedings. Whale Oil would continue to run without Slater, the post said. ‘‘When and if Cam’s health allows, he will return to the site, subject entirely to his medical team’s clearance.’’ ‘‘This will not be soon, due to the extended recovery period mandated by Cam’s medical team.’’ Earlier this year it was revealed on Whale Oil that Slater had suffered a stroke last October leaving him partially disabled. Last year, a High Court judge ruled Slater had defamed former Conservative Party leader Colin Craig during the fallout of the 2014 election. This related to the May 2017 trial where both Slater and Craig sued each other for defamation. Slater had published articles on his Whale Oil blog criticising Craig for his action towards his former press secretary Rachael MacGregor, who resigned two days before the 2014 election after accusing Craig of sexual assault.
