Auckland water
A recent edition has a major article on the Auckland water shortage.
A Mr Roger Pikia is quoted as saying ‘‘Auckland have been well aware of water issues confronting their city for at least 40 years now’’.
That was precisely the point of a letter I penned 12/6. Despite a doubling in population over 40 years, Watercare has not spent a dollar on new sources, except the Waikato supply. In fact a planned dam in the Hunua Ranges was scrapped. They need to be called to account. I did significant research before I wrote that letter so am disappointed that you chose not to print it.
If I am wasting my time, let me know please. Overall your paper seems to put a diminishing value on letters to the editor, tending instead of relying on paid ‘‘opinion’’ pieces.
Very recently one edition had about eight letters published from people, none of whom lived within 150km of Hamilton. Most were from Christchurch or Wellington.
