Fatal collision

One person has died after a milk tanker collided with a mowing tractor on State Highway 5 near Rotorua. Emergency services were called to the crash between Waiohotu and Galaxy roads about 10.45am yesterday, a police spokeswoman said. A rescue helicopter had been sent to the scene and drivers of both vehicles were trapped, with the tractor landing in a ditch. Police confirmed shortly before 3pm that the tractor driver died at the scene. The truck driver suffered moderate to minor injuries. The road was blocked and motorists were advised to delay travel until further notice or choose an alternative route.
