Brave menstrual move

-

Scotland is set to become the world’s first country to make menstrual products free for anyone who needs them, if new legislation is voted through. The Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Bill is designed to ensure that products like tampons and pads are free for those who need them in public facilities nationwide. The estimated cost would be about £24 million (NZ$46m) annually. The bill was introduced by Scottish MP Monica Lennon to tackle ‘‘period poverty’’, where those who need menstrual products struggle to afford them. In 2018, Scotland made menstrual products free in schools, colleges and universities.
