From one mum to another – trade-ins
An activewear brand for expecting mothers has launched a ‘‘trade-in and resell’’ initiative to make its products more affordable and sustainable.
Cadenshae, which makes activewear for pregnant and breastfeeding mums, was started by Kiwi parents and personal trainers Nikki and Adam Clarke in 2013.
They felt new mothers should have access to the same style, quality and variety they loved to wear before pregnancy.
The duo have now started Relove, where customers can send back their worn activewear to Cadenshae to be sold on to another expecting mother at a more affordable price.
Nikki Clarke said it made sense for the business to create a platform where mothers could trade maternity activewear. ‘‘Women’s bodies change quickly and drastically during pregnancy and postpartum, so a woman’s need for different sizes and clothing styles changes quickly too.’’
The idea for Relove had been in the back of her mind for years, after she saw the activewear was continuously being shared around online in ‘‘buy, sell, swap’’ groups.
‘‘This initiative not only means new mums are getting our clothing at a more affordable price but it is also saving items ending up in a landfill,’’ she said.
The brand’s Casual Breastfeeding hoodie, which retails for $89.99, could be purchased on Relove for $35, and leggings that would normally sell for for $94.99 could be picked up for $40.
Each item was checked to be sure it was fit for resale and those who donated were then given store credit – anything from $5 to $15 depending on the style and condition of their items.
Any items returned which are not fit for resale will be donated to charity.
