MyLotto disruption rolls into second day

- John Anthony

Online Lotto players are unable to check their tickets after the MyLotto system underwent an upgrade on Saturday.

Before Saturday night’s $10 million Powerball draw, Lotto warned that players who bought their tickets online would have to wait until yesterday morning for their results because the systems behind MyLotto and the Lotto NZ app would be undergoing an upgrade.

This meant from 7.30pm Saturday the site would close, and customers would not be able to log in to MyLotto to buy or check tickets, or claim prizes until the site reopened yesterday morning.

By late yesterday morning players were still unable to check their results.

In a Facebook post yesterday morning Lotto said its IT team was aware of an issue which meant players could not see their tickets.

‘‘Don’t worry, we’re working as quickly as we can to fix this so you’ll be able to see your tickets soon.’’

The post attracted 400 comments, with many questioning why Lotto had chosen to carry out the maintenance on a Saturday.

In response to one comment a Lotto customer service rep said upgrading its system on draw night allowed it to conduct the draw, complete all the ticket processing, and not have tickets being bought or checked as it was trying to move to a new system.

‘‘After a draw when everyone has bought a ticket and the draw is closed is the best time to do this,’’ the customer service rep said. ‘‘It also gives us time to make sure everything is working well before the next Lotto draw.’’

In post on Twitter Lotto said because of a high volume of inquiries some customers may experience issues trying to make contact.

Powerball was not struck and rolled over to $12m for the upcoming Wednesday evening draw.
