Cam­bridge sta­bles score well at Waipa¯

Wins in four of seven races and the quinella in races two and four

Cam­bridge sta­bles took out four of the seven races as well as pro­vid­ing the quinella in races two and four at Waipa¯ Rac­ing Club on Wed­nes­day.

It was the sec­ond meet­ing in less than a fort­night that Cam­bridge has dom­i­nated pro­ceed­ings at Te Awa­mutu race­course, hav­ing pro­duced five win­ners on the nine race card on July 7.

Speed­keeper, trained by Alex Oliveira, won by 3.3 lengths on de­but pay­ing $20.40 in race two, the Vi­la­grad Win­ery 1400, with Troy Har­ris aboard.

The Stephen Marsh-trained Goldi­li­cious, fresh from plac­ing third at Waipa¯ on July 7, placed sec­ond. Danielle John­son was Goldi­li­cious’ jockey on both these oc­ca­sions. Marsh had fur­ther suc­cess in race three, on Thee Auld Cruizer to win the Waipa¯ Work­ing­men’s Club 1580. Jockey Ja­son Wad­dell pi­loted the 4-year-old bay geld­ing to vic­tory.

It was a big change of for­tunes for the horse.

The Cam­bridge jug­ger­naut con­tin­ued in race four, the Lim­mer Lodge Polo 1580, won by the Mur­ray Baker/An­drew Fors­man-trained Ole Ole (Matthew Cameron). El Jodi (Dar­ren Da­nis), trained by Cather­ine Cameron, fin­ished sec­ond half a length in ar­rears to nail the sec­ond Cam­bridge quinella for the day.

The fourth Cam­bridge win­ner was Sell­wood (Dar­ren Da­nis) in race five, the Te Awa­mutu Plumbing and Drainage 1580. The 6-year-old bay geld­ing had placed third same course/dis­tance on Septem­ber 7.

Two other Cam­bridge run­ners placed sec­ond, Mr Hass (Vin­nie Col­gan) and Swis­si­li­cious (Ashvin Goin­dasamy) in races one and six re­spec­tively.

Te Awa­mutu sta­bles se­cured one win and four thirds.

The soli­tary home­town win­ner was Ujumpi­jump (Brid­get Grylls), trained on the course by Joseph Wal­dron, in race six the Mer­chant Liquor 1400.

Jockey Ja­son Wad­dell pi­loted the 4-year-old bay geld­ing to vic­tory. It was a big change of for­tunes for the horse af­ter only pro­duc­ing bat­tling ef­forts race day of late.

Horses to weigh in for third from Te Awa­mutu sta­bles were Luck Of Wanted, trained by Carl Hen­der­son, Our Bes­kees, by Deb­bie Sweeney, I Walk Along, by Clin­ton Is­dale and Lo­tus Laud, by Peter Coutts.

The only race Cam­bridge and Te Awa­mutu run­ners did not place in the first three was the sev­enth, the NZB In­surance Pearl Se­ries Race won by Pat­sys Lass (Rowena Smyth) trained by Ea­monn Green. Be­low Zero (Ju­lian Cas­tona) trained by Peter and Dawn Wil­liams, By­er­ley Park, and Polly Grey (Brid­get Grylls) trained by Kylie Fawcett, Mata­mata, were sec­ond and third re­spec­tively.

Race one, the Chip­per­field All Round Equine Ed­u­ca­tion 1150, was won by Spir­its Aubeer (Rowena Smyth) Next meet­ing is on Sun­day, Oc­to­ber 7.
