Dave Dobbyn on bill at Villa Maria

-

Evergreen Kiwi rocker Dave Dobbyn is an exciting inclusion in the line-up when the enigmatic subject of 2012’s hit documentary Searching For Sugar Man

— Detroit psychedelic folk artist Rodriguez (aka Sixto Rodriguez), makes a most welcome return to New Zealand in February.

Rodriguez is headlining at Villa Maria Winery on Saturday, February 2. Also on the bill are The Topp Twins and The Eastern.

With a plethora of hits spanning his career in Th’ Dudes, DD Smash and as a solo artist, Dave Dobbyn brings to the table such great tunes as Be Mine Tonight, Slice Of Heaven, Loyal and Welcome Home.

All are included on our featured CD — Dave Dobbyn: A Slice Of Heaven – 40 Years Of Hits — and we have two copies up for grabs as the ideal precursor to have you ready for an awesome night of rock.

Thanks to bootleg recordings and word of mouth, Rodriguez’s first and most famous of recordings, Cold Fact, found its way to South Africa where its counter-culture lyrics resonated with the country’s politicallyalienated youth.

Without a telephone and working factory and construction jobs to support his family, Rodriguez remained oblivious to the fact that he was arguably bigger than Elvis in South Africa.

Nearly five decades after the release of his debut, Rodriguez’s incredible vocal and musical skill is finally being heard by audiences around the globe.

A night with the stars, under the stars – be there. Tickets from Ticketmaster.
