Awatere track to close
The Awatere Tussock Track in Marlborough is closing in April. Owners Simon and Lynda Harvey are retiring. Walkers over the years were able to dscover close up the hidden beauty of a working New Zealand high country farm Far from the rush and distractions of everyday life, the Awatere Tussock Track was a three day walk into New Zealand’s rugged Marlborough high country. The track showcased an integrated approach to farming and conservation practices and provided an opportunity to see unsurpassed views and walk where few have been before. The owners Simon and Lynda Harvey, along with their eldest son Thomas, farm ‘Glen Orkney’, an award winning 1930 ha property in the Medway Valley, Marlborough The farm was purchased in 1985 from Simon’s parents. In 2012 the adjoining property ‘Stronsay’ was purchased and the two properties are farmed together On the land Merino sheep and angus cattle are farmed alongside protected areas covenanted under the QEII trust.
