Add a worldly edge to summer dressing with handmade accessories and lived- in fabrics
It’s easy to romanticise the beauty of far-flung, dreamy destinations like Capri or Marrakesh — the latter with its culture of humming souks, the dusky old city and its spicy-hued sunsets framing a world mixed with simplicity and luxury. It was one of 2017’s hippest travel destinations and prompts a closer look at its influence on fashion, textiles and design — think sun-kissed colours, iron-free fabrics and skew-whiff textures. Spicy, warm colours make an impact this season, and are even better in soft linens or buttery suede. At his recent Spring 2018 show in Paris for Loewe, designer Jonathan Anderson showcased patchwork dresses and crushed gingham in a collection that paid homage to a travelling Bohemian. Curly-toe sneakers inspired by traditional Moroccan slippers raised eyebrows, but the point is to forget about good taste. These are clothes for the free-spirited. And for off-duty, balmy days ahead, is there any other better state of mind?
