The Saturday Brew

- THE TIME: THE BREW: — Monique Barden — Monique Barden

Hey! I am Yogost, 350 Queen St. 2pm

Yogost is a hugely popular hole-in-the wall yoghurt drink shop at the top of Queen St, dispensing various flavours of a purple rice yoghurt drink. We were new and curious, but not successful in finding out exactly what is in this drink, but I can concur it tastes like yoghurt, has purple rice and whatever else and it’s delicious. We tried the basic Purple Rice Yoghurt $7.80, which is a bit like liquid yoghurt rice pudding with purple rice floating up the straw. They use a medium grain, non-glutinous heirloom rice and it’s good. We also had the Fresh Fruit Yoghurt — Straws and Berries $12.80 with lots of fresh strawberries and a yoghurt fruit combo that was quite divine; it’s a bit on the pricey side but I would get this again for a treat. The side of the container says, “Best taste 30 minutes” and I agree, this drink is best cold, after its been warmed in your child’s hands for longer than 30 mins it loses its magic. For yogurt-lovers this is a delicious brew that will hopefully be served very soon in ecofriendly packaging.

Pt Chev Beach Cafe has the strategic advantage of being the last watering hole before Coyle Park and the beach. They’ve got all bases covered with an extensive offering from cabinet food to icecreams and an a la carte menu with a full bar. In other words, you can park up for a leisurely brunch and a cocktail or like the endless stream of dog-walkers and park/beach-dwellers, head in for a takeaway. A stylish and sophisticated eatery serving excellent fare in this beachside neighbourhood.
