3 bodies found in Waikato manhunt

- Lane Nichols

Police hunting for a man wanted in connection with the double stabbing of his parents in Waikato this week have found three people dead at a residential property in Waitomo District.

Emergency services were advised about 7pm last night that three bodies had been discovered near Taharoa.

Waikato Police Acting District Commander Naila Hassan said the discovery was made by a person visiting the property.

The crime scene remained under police guard overnight, with cordons in place on Kawhia Harbour Rd near Willow Point Rd.

Hassan said a Holden Vectra saloon was found at the property.

The car has been the subject of a police search in connection with Ross Bremner, 34, who was wanted in connection with the stabbing death of his mother Clare, 60, on Tuesday night at their home in Otorohanga.

His father Keith, 64, was critically injured and remained in Waikato Hospital.

Armed police have been hunting for Bremner and called for sightings of the Holden Vectra, but warned the public not to approach him.

Bremner’s mother had told friends her son had been in a dark place recently and his parents feared what he might do.

Police are working to identify the three found dead last night and notify next of kin.

The relationship between the three was yet to be confirmed, however it appeared they were all known to each other.

One woman wrote on Facebook that a police officer who stopped her at a cordon “said it was similar to what happened in Otorohanga”. Another woman wrote she had seen police with torches searching her aunt's property.

Hassan said: “Police acknowledge that this is unsettling and alarming to the community, but do not believe there i s any ongoing risk to the public.” A press conference is scheduled to be held at the Hamilton Central Police Station at midday today.
