Disappearing ducks

I have lived in the Mt Roskill area for many years and have always rejoiced at the ducks that live and breed in and near the War Memorial Park. My house backs on to the park and this year I haven’t seen a single duck. I heard through the grapevine that they are being caught and eaten. I’m shocked to hear it, could this be true?
