Top tips for going to Splore with kids

IF YOU CAN GLAMP, DO IT!

Glamping is absolutely astoundingly brilliant, the tents are roomy and have real beds and there are hot showers and flushing toilets. Believe me, at 3pm on the Sunday you would give someone your car in exchange for a flushing toilet.

TAKE A SPLANNY

This is an actual thing and it’s what we are doing. We have a great babysitter, who loves our baby as much as we do. We are buying her a ticket to Splore and in return she will look after the baby one of the nights and half the days. It means my partner and I can enjoy some of the night- time acts together and know the baby is well looked after by someone she knows. It’s a win- win.

TAKE THAT

Apart from all the things you would normally take, such as snacks and sunblock, there are some other things you should do. First, write your mobile phone number in vivid on your child’s arm — it doesn’t wash off and they always have your number. You can also tie a helium balloon to your kid so you can see them easily in a crowd, and of course take earmuffs. You can buy adorable ones that make your child look like the world’s smallest builder. They also protect their precious little eardrums.

MORNINGS

Kids wake up early and it’s good to give them something to do. At Splore they have a zero- waste philosophy so they charge you for your cup. Technically you are supposed to keep these and return them to get your deposit back but people drop them all over the place and it’s the kids who collect them. Send your kid out first thing in the morning to round up as many as they can find; my friend’s kid made $ 170 last year.

SPLORE FAMILIES

There is a Facebook page dedicated to families at Splore, you can ask questions and share ideas and thoughts with other parents.
