Three leading Irish musicians said they turned down offers to perform at the White House St Patrick’s Day celebration because they are opposed to President Donald Trump’s stance on immigration and his proposed budget cuts to arts programmes. “I just can’t bring myself to do it,” said Billy McComiskey, who was born in the United States after his father emigrated from Northern Ireland. Instead of playing the Irish accordion for Trump, McComiskey — and two other acclaimed musicians, Laura Byrne and Donna Long — entertained students at Howard Community College in Maryland.
McDonald’s says it has determined that its Twitter account was “hacked by an external source” after it sent a message calling Trump “a disgusting excuse of a President”. The tweet to Trump yesterday from the official account for McDonald’s has since been deleted but was captured in screenshots. Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn was paid more than US$ 67,000 ($ 95,800) by Russian companies before the presidential election, according to documents released by Democratic congressman Elijah Cummings, who asked the Trump Administration to provide a comprehensive record of Flynn’s contacts with foreign governments and interests. Trump fired Flynn as national security adviser last month, saying the former US Army lieutenant general misled VicePresident Mike Pence and other White House officials about his conversations with Russia’s ambassador to the US, Sergey Kislyak.
