Arm Wrestling
Friday 2pm.
It’s the 2017 World Armwrestling League Championships from where else but Las Vegas? The House of Blues at 3950 Las Vegas Boulevard, to be precise. There has to be a message surely on the website’s promo which states “no professional cameras, wallet chains & studded belts or jewelry”. It is obviously a sport on the move. In underlining plans to continue to grow the sport, a mission statement proclaimed: “In just a few short years, the World Armwrestling League has grown into the premier destination for all things pulling, elevating the sport to a massive stage and showcasing the incredible stories of the planet’s best arm wrestlers.” Fought with both left and right arms, between men and women and in a variety of weight categories, it has the feeling of other sports, like darts, which now cater for both the massive, vociferous inhouse crowds and an increasing television audience. Why else would ESPN throw their weight, so to speak, behind it?
