Tonight sees the much- anticipated first test against the Lions, who will be super- confident after their win against the Maori and Chiefs, but was it as good as some would have us believe? After all, they were handed two penalty tries and scored others with the opponents a man short. Eden Park might be the leveller. In nine tests there, the visitors have won one ( in 1959) and drawn another ( in 1971, when they had their only series win). In the last three, the ABs have scored at least 30 points. On Tuesday, the Lions will chase another “Super Scalp” against the Hurricanes. Against Wellington on their last tour, the Lions won 23- 6 en route to a clean sweep over seven provincial sides. In the earlier game today at Suncorp, the Wallabies host Italy, who might fancy their chances of breaking a 16- match losing record in all games played between the two countries. Twice, in 1994 and 2012, the Italians have got to within three points. Tomorrow, the Springboks host France and Argentina meet Georgia. On Monday, the New Zealand women’s sevens team should wrap up the world title at the French tournament. They lead by 14 points from Canada and Australia. International, today 4.50pm/ 6.30pm; tomorrow 2.50am/ 7.05am; Tuesday 7pm. Women’s Sevens, Monday 3am.
