What I’d do

- Erica Crawford

1 During the week, I travel between Auckland and our Loveblock Farm in Marlborough’s Awatere Valley, so I really treasure my weekends at home. For dinner on Friday, my husband Kim and I like to wander down the road to the Parnell shops or Cibo if we’re feeling a bit fancy. What I love most about Cibo is its spirit of hospitality — there’s usually a small space for us, be it at the bar counter or by the back entrance.

2 On Saturday, I don’t get out of bed before 9am. My Saturdays are reserved for “pootling”. Mid- morning, I like to walk Queenie — my bossy Australian silky terrier — to the La Cigale markets or the Parnell farmers’ market. Kim often has to pick us up though, I tend to buy more than I can carry.

3 Auckland is full of beautiful public spaces and alleyways. I like to wander around the little St Stephens graveyard, Parnell Rose Gardens, Albert Park and Auckland Art Gallery in the afternoons. On my way home, I buy a treat and espresso from Little & Friday or Rosie. If I’m not wandering, I’m usually catching up with friends or treating myself to a day at a spa.

4 Sunday is my day for chores and grocery shopping. I like to head out to Wholefoods in Grey Lynn for specialist organic goods. You’ll always find chook cooking at our place. Sunday night is family night. My version of roast chicken is spicy. I put lots of butter under the skin, with cloves, garlic and allspice galore. It’s always paired with a glass of my Loveblock gewurztraminer.
