Grand views over Orewa

Owners sell one, keep one, writes Donna McIntyre

- APARTMENT LIVING

Graham and Christine Drinnan enjoy magnificent ocean views from their eleventh- floor apartment in Orewa’s landmark Nautilus building. “There are 12 storeys at the Nautilus, we are one down from the top,” says Graham. “The higher you are, the better views you get of the beach.

“We see the water, and people walking along the beach. When it is a rough day we see all the kite sailors on the water, sometimes there can be 60 of those. And we see the paddleboarders.

“We can see all of Whangaparaoa peninsula, the Orewa estuary, Silverdale and Millwater. At the weekends, we can watch the boats coming out from the Orewa estuary when they go out fishing.”

The couple bought the apartment about seven years ago when they were living in Whangarei.

“We bought it as an investment holiday place, then about four years ago we moved here permanently.”

As well as those wonderful views, they appreciate being close to the shops and the beach.

Graham says the building’s 150 apartments are home to a mix of people.

“There is the hotel pool, there are some rentals and owner- occupied. There are families, business people, working couples and retired people.”

He says the building, constructed about 14 years
