A quick word

After Thursday night’s TV interview with Jacinda Ardern and Bill English why bother about a minor party to form a Government. Labour and National have a lot in common with their policies. They should form a coalition. Norman Bennett, Grey Lynn.

Bill English gave a solid, measured performance in the debate. Obviously, he noted what the latest Colmar Brunton poll augurs: the blacks are steady, the greens are bloodied, the blues are bruised, and the reds are coming. Rajiv Thind, Brisbane.

Bill lost it in the final 30 seconds when each was allowed to voice their vision for New Zealand. He had to read his notes three times to find the answer. John O’Neill, Kaiwaka.

It’s irrelevant who won or lost the debate. Winston still gets to choose who won the election. Jessica Quinn, Papakura.

A promise a day should keep the Opposition away — Steven Joyce’s new buzz phrase. J. R. Jones, Mairangi Bay.

Jacindamania. Legalise cannabis, check. Promote suicide with the marginalised ( er, euthanasia) check. Entice students with lower fees and more handouts, check. Spend now, pay later. Check. Jules Riding, Whangarei.

It looks like Jacinda is getting the selfish, nonthinking vote of those who will gain from her election bribes. She will destroy the economy and bankrupt the country. Ron Baker, Lynfield.

The University Students Association has voted to ban the pro- life group. Would there have been an outcry of injustice if it was the other way round? Where is all this tolerance we are suppose to exercise, or is this only aimed at those of the Christian faith? R. Cluley, Mt Roskill.

On TV we are witnessing daily the amazing rescue efforts in Houston, centre of the US fossil fuel industry, by an armada of vehicles, boats and by air. One wonders how these rescues would be done in a fossil fuel- free world advocated by many. Nick Nicholas, Greenlane.

Your “no more reclamation” story yesterday carried an out- of- date aerial photo of Ferguson Terminal. The foreground sea area has now been reclaimed with a 300m wharf on its north face that will give Ports of Auckland an extra 10 hectares of land. K. E. Stevens, Gulf Harbour.
