Race finale as track farewelled

The Australian Endurance Championsh­ip will be decided this weekend at Highlands Motorsport Park. The event marks the Australian GT series’ last visit to the South Island track. Tim Miles and Jaxon Evans lead the championsh­ip with a 76-point buffer over Dominic Storey and Peter Hackett.

Two-wheeled endurance test

Hampton Downs welcomes motorcycle­s this weekend for the annual Six Hour Endurance race. Each bike has a trio of riders and will cover about 298 laps (804km). Each rider is required to complete a specified amount of track time during the event.

Cup challenge for Collins

Round two of the MSC NZ F5000 Tasman Cup Revival Series this weekend at Manfeild will be a new challenge for series’ newcomer Michel Collins. The 21-year-old three-time South Island Formula 1600 class champion made a big impression on his debut at the Supercars round at Pukekohe last week.

Slender lead in Super GT

With one round remaining in the 2017 Super GT Series, Nick Cassidy and teammate Ryo Hirakawa lead by six points over their nearest rivals Kazuya Oshima and Andrea Caldarelli. The duo won the opening round at Okayama and also took another win at the last round of the championsh­ip in Thailand.

Racing great at Phillip Island

Legendary motorcycle racer Giacomo Agostini will ride one of his

350cc world championsh­ip-winning MV Agustas on parade laps at January’s Phillip Island Classic. The

75-year-old won eight 500cc world titles (1966-1972, 1975) and seven in

350cc (1968-1974) as a rider, and a further three as a team owner with Eddie Lawson.
