Here’s a fascinating statistic:

10,000 New Zealand horses were sent to foreign battlefields in World

War I. Today, in their honour, Waikato Combined Equestrians will unveil Aotearoa’s first bronze statue of a war horse by artist Matt Gaudie, followed by The Mane Event, a day of horse-related family fun including pony and wagon rides, and a petting zoo.

Unveiling: today, 10.30am, Memorial Park, Memorial Drive. The Mane Event: 1pm-4pm, Claudelands Events Centre, Hamilton.
