A quick word

Just got a breakdown of the Auckland city rates spend and it says they will spend $1324 million on transport 2017/2018. We sure don’t get much for our money .

Jock MacVicar, Hauraki.

NZ Post has a very easy solution. Stop being so bureaucratic and return the damaged sketch given its sentimental importance to the parents. The parents can use the refunded $280 to commission another sketch if they so choose. A good example of unnecessarily making things difficult.

Peter McGregor, Sandringham.

If the object of a Regional Fuel tax is to build better infrastructure and encourage people to use improved public transport services. In other words to reduce congestion on Auckland's roads. Why then are electric vehicles exempt when they are also part of the problem as the motive power is irrelevant. Surely congestion surcharges are a better, and, fairer option.

Gavin Baker, Glendowie.

So Dr Medlicott hasn't seen any benign childhood diseases for two decades. Perhaps that's because we have traded them for autism, auto-immune diseases, asthma, attention deficit disorder and different cancers.

Pauline Gough, Dargaville

The safest way to take drugs is not to inhale, insert, inject, swallow, or snort them. Or at least that is what they taught us at school.

Glenn Forsyth, Taupo.

Someone should have told Trump that the first requirement for a successful liar is a good memory

Jeanette Grant, Mt Eden.

I understand midwives feel they are undervalued and underpaid but was it necessary to take their children out of school to take part in the protest? I have friends with schoolaged children in England who have been fined for taking their children out of school there. Perhaps schools here should do the same.

Janet Boyle, Stanmore,

Regarding GST changes: What happens if the product that you want is not available off the shelf at any New Zealand retailers? I have purchased many items from overseas as I can not walk into a retailer and get it off the shelf, some offer to get it for me, but go where I would go import the product, and then charge me a mark-up for doing what I could do myself.

Aidan Crabtree, Titirangi.

I like the cut of Heather du Plessis-Allan's gib! She would be a great replacement for Leighton Smith at Newstalk ZB when he retires.

How about it?

L. Thomas, Ponsonby.
