What I’d do

- Michelle Blundell

1 This morning I’ll start the day right by heading to Rabbit Cafe in Newton. Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day and Rabbit is a charming and cosy cafe offering vegetarian and vegan food, and cabinets filled with delicious sweet and savoury treats. The coffee is superb and the staff are welcoming. It’s like Cheers, where everybody knows your name, except everyone’s drinking natural smoothies. I’ll toss up between the green eggs on potato sourdough with smoky coconut chips and the fig, apple and cacao granola with fresh fruit and coconut yoghurt.

2 Later in the day I’ll head to rehearsals for pool (no water), which opens next week at Basement Theatre. I usually end up going to see a show at Basement or Q Theatre, and with the 2018 NZ International Comedy Festival on at the moment there is so much to choose from. I’m excited to see Alice Snedden (Self-Titled: Volume II) or Donna

3 Before the show I’ll make time for catching up with mates over dinner. If I’m in my hood, Mt Eden, I’ll stop by Zool Zool for ramen as it’s super affordable and tasty. If I want to blow the budget I go to Masu on Federal St. Their cuisine is insane and the bar is a beautiful place to hang out. Try the cedar-roasted Marou chocolate and hazelnut pudding if you really want to push the boat out. Brookbanks (You Do You Babes) tonight.

4 Tomorrow I’ll get out for a walk. I’m a big walker. I think the mountain goat could be my spirit animal. I’ll head up Mt Eden for the views, or get away from the city to one of West Auckland’s beaches and tracks. After organising life-admin I’ll sink into the couch to watch a film or TV show. I’m currently bingeing Atlanta and Black Mirror.
