SOAPBOX SYMPOSIUM WITH JOHN REYNOLDS Artist John Reynolds (pictured) invites art fair visitors to come and chat one-on-one, for “conjecture, idle talk and maybe an earful on any topic of your choice”. Reynolds will be at his booth, designed with architect Malcolm Walker, between 1pm-5pm each day of the fair, and also at the Art Party on Friday evening. BYO your Think Drink (aka coffee by Coffee Supreme) and witty banter.

WHAT’S NEW?

An unpreceden­ted amount of new work is being produced for this year’s fair. Acclaimed artists including Simon Denny, Jess Johnson, Andy Leleisi’uao, Shane Cotton and Dale Frank will all show pieces that have never been seen before.

PROJECTS

Projects 2018 pushes boundaries — including some 18 emerging and establishe­d artists who will be show works around The Cloud. Projects 2018 also sees a number of commission­ed pieces being created for the fair, including a much-anticipate­d piece by Elam graduate Hannah Valentine, commission­ed by Deadly Ponies. Don’t miss Hikalu Clarke’s Lexus LC500 coupe, at the front of The Cloud, or Jade Parkes’ DIY caravan outside the harbour end.

BAKERDOUGL­AS BOOKSHOP

The BakerDougl­as Bookshop will feature a diverse selection of the most beautiful art and photo books being produced in New Zealand, including Gavin Hipkins’

The Domain, Denys Watkins’ monograph,

Dynamo Hum and Gordon Walters’ New Vision,

which are available to buy.

BRINGING THE PACIFIC RIM TO LIFE

Showing some of the most interestin­g artists from the Pacific Rim under one roof, the Auckland Art Fair represents the best of the best from Karangahap­e Rd to New York City. Cutting-edge galleries include Totoral Lab from Santiago, Misha Shin from Tokyo, Bergman Gallery from Rarotonga and Redbase Art from Jakarta joining the likes of Starkwhite and Neon Parc.

EDITIONS

Nga¯ tahi Editions and Publicatio­ns is a collaborat­ion between nine leading non-profit galleries across Auckland. At the Nga¯ tahi Editions and Publicatio­ns stand, you’ll find pieces from establishe­d NZ artists alongside the up-andcoming, with art ranging in price from $100-$2000. The organisati­ons involved are Artspace, Corbans Estate Arts Centre, McCahon House, Malcolm Smith Gallery, Objectspac­e, St Paul St Gallery, AUT, Te Tuhi, and Te Uru.

DAILY BREAD AND NEW ZEALAND DRINKS

Josh Helm and Tom Hishon from Orphans Kitchen partner with Patrick Welsh to create something special. This Pt Chevalier bakery will showcase its signature 60 sourdough bread at the fair, and serve a range of sandwiches, pies and sweet pastries, using local organic ingredient­s. Don’t miss out on the great New Zealand beverages — Coffee Supreme, Otakiri water, wines by Catalina Sounds and Nanny Goat and craft beers by Hallertau.
