I’m charged with taking our son to U8 Eden Hornets’ first-year tackle rugby games, which I coach with another dad. It sometimes feels like herding cats, but we’re doing okay so far: two big wins and a draw.

2Morningside,

We’ll then head to Crave Cafe in

where Nigel and the collective put all profits back into the community. To help the cause I’ll go for eggs benedict with salmon. Because we own a craft brewing company, I’ve got a never-ending excuse to be “in-trade” from Friday afternoon, sampling our beers and those of our brewer mates at many of the great beer venues around Auckland. This weekend, I’m at Brewers Co-op and Lumsden Freehouse. cravecafe.co.nz; The Brewers Co-Op, 28-132 Victoria St W. thelumsden.co.nz

I’m a real beach dweller, hence the label our Bach Brewing beers. Weather permitting, we’ll spend Saturday afternoon at Piha, with fish ’n’ chips and a cold beer on the deck at Piha RSA. We often head to Buckley Food Store in Epsom. Maureen could be your best mate’s mum — she does the same delectable homestyle cooking and really good coffee. Sunday is a “no

day — it’s for laziness. A few weeks ago we discovered Awhitu Park on the Manukau Harbour, which is really cool. We’ll often have friends over for a long lunch of slow-cooked lamb or beef roasted on the barbecue, but this weekend we’ll be doing yum cha at Grand Harbour. The prawn dumplings and crispy pork are delicious. grandharbour.co.nz
