Your guide to the weekend and beyond
CIRCUS ARTS
The genre of arts known as “socio-circus” may not be familiar to, well, anyone but according to Aerios Socio-Circus Theatre Company it is socially engaged circus theatre. If you’re curious what that might entail, head along to one of their two shows: Charles Steals
the Show, which is for the whole family, or the R15 show, Get That Circus Out of My
Lion! Translated versions of Latnovian Circus Theatre productions, both shows will be full of awe-inspiring circus and aerial work within two very different stories. Today and tomorrow, 1pm: Charles Steals
the Show. Tickets $5-$15, family pass $30 (at the door only). Tonight, 7.30pm: Get That Circus Out of My Lion! Tickets $20-$25. Playhouse Theatre, Glen Eden.
FILM NOIR
While the evenings get darker, so do the films playing at the Academy Cinema for Voyage Du Noir: Festival of Global Film Noir. The term, “film noir” may conjure images of trench coatwearing American detectives smoking cigars in dark American offices but this festival brings together noir films from all over the world. Tonight, for instance, catch Death of a Cyclist, a Spanish tale about the aftermath of a hit-andrun, or tomorrow see Obsession, an Italian story of a woman who plots to kill her husband. Tonight, 8.30pm, Death of a Cyclist.
Tomorrow, noon, Obsession.
Academy Cinema, Lorne St, Auckland City. Tickets $10 through academycinemas.co.nz
