The only thing better than spending an evening watching some of the best cinema in the world is getting to do so in Auckland’s stunning Civic Theatre. On until 19 August, the New Zealand International Film Festival brings you the best independent films from across the globe. Tackling an incredible array of genres all the way from gender identity to the refugee crisis, the programme is as notoriously varied as it is popular, so book your tickets quick!
An icon in itself, the Auckland Town Hall has been the home of classical music since its opening in 1911. Today, the Grand Hall continues to be a hub of musical entertainment, with their winter programme featuring indie singers Tash Sultana and Vance Joy, Beethoven by NZSO and Verdi’s Aida by NZ Opera. So book yourself in for a night of music at one of Auckland’s most beautiful venues!
Winter is well and truly here and that means big coats, rainy days and life-sized snow globes. That’s right, Sky City are celebrating this chilly season in style with an enchanted snow globe in the centre of their plaza. Free for all ages, wander on into their winter wonderland, complete with fur covered benches, photo station and, of course, a winter ballerina.
Since it opened its doors in 2008, the Basement theatre has given even the quirkiest of stage shows a place to perform. With a finger firmly on the pulse, the cultural powerhouse’s programme is full of premieres. From comedic shows like ‘Snort’ and ‘Down to Clown’, to the more serious productions like ‘The Watercooler’ and ‘Run Rabbit’, this seasons programme will leave you feeling cultured, confused and highly entertained.

End the night on a sweet note and head on down to OKO Dessert Kitchen for a late night treat. Situated on the edge of Aotea Square, the dessert parlour is staffed by a team of international pâtissier who whip up eatable works of art like their cookies & cream waffles or liquid nitrogen chocolate volcano.
