Tributes, tears flow

-

Tributes have been pouring in for Australian golfer

Jarrod Lyle, who has been battling cancer for almost

20 years since he was first diagnosed as a teenager in

1999. This week, the father of two young daughters decided to stop active treatment and go in palliative care after losing some eyesight, struggling to eat and suffering slurred speech. His wife Briony wrote: “My heart breaks as I type this message. Earlier today Jarrod made the decision to stop active treatment and begin palliative care. He has given everything that he's got to give, and his poor body cannot take anymore.” The tributes to Lyle, who reached a career high of 142 in the world, have been as emotional as the news he was going home to die. Former world No 1 Luke Donald said: “Life is precious and we all take it for granted too often — seeing the picture of @jarrodlylepga hugging his family with not long to live brought tears to my eyes. Peace be with you, you will be missed Jarrod x.” Aussie great Ian Baker-Finch added: “Jarrod has fought with the heart of a lion, always with dignity and a smile surrounded by his loving family. We Love You...please rest peacefully knowing how inspirational and beloved you remain in all our hearts.” Even Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson: “Man this is a tough one. Sending so much love, light and strength to Jarrod and [the] Lyle family.”
