I was appalled to read the vicechancellor of Victoria University intends to change its name to Wellington University. Universities are judged by academic performance, reputations won by research and scholarship. When one hears the name Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard and MIT, they do not ask which one?

What they are interested in is their alumni, their research and performance records and how they rate in the field of study the prospective student wishes to follow.
