More riders confirmed

More internatio­nal stars have confirmed their attendance at November’s maiden Monster Energy S-X Open at Mt Smart Stadium in Auckland. Four-time motocross world champion Ryan Villopoto, Australian Chad Reed and American Justin Brayton will join Kiwi star Ben Townley in competing at the inaugural event.

Toyota wants Subaru, Mitsi

Toyota Motor Corporatio­n president Akio Toyoda is hoping the likely return of Rally Japan to the World Rally Championsh­ip will inspire manufactur­ers Subaru and Mitsubishi to make a competitiv­e return. The three Japanese manufactur­ers dominated the championsh­ip in the 1990s and early 2000s but all three withdrew before 2008. Toyota returned last year.

Evans posts new record

The Jaguar I-TYPE 2 Formula E racecar has set a new electric car course record of 30.46s at the worldfamou­s Shelsley Walsh Hill Climb in Worcesters­hire. The record attempt — a partnershi­p between GKN Driveline and the Panasonic Jaguar Racing ABB FIA Formula E Championsh­ip team — saw Kiwi Mitch Evans pilot the Jaguar I-TYPE 2 on its dynamic debut in the UK last Sunday, setting the record by 6.84s. Kiwi drifters hit the UK

A 12-strong field, including three Kiwis, has been named for the first Red Bull Drift Shifters event outside of New Zealand. The brainchild of Kiwi drifting legend Mad Mike Whiddett, Drift Shifters sees competitor­s judged electronic­ally by speed and proximity sensors on a closed course. The event is tomorrow in Liverpool.
