Weekend Herald

Classic fantastic

-

If you’ve stayed in Auckland for the weekend, you’ll be able to grab your coffee and check out the vehicles among a much smaller crowd than usual at Caffeine and Classics at Smales Farm tomorrow.

LAST LAUGHS

Whether it’s been a shocker or a rocker, it’s always a good idea to see the year out with some laughs. The final showcase of 2018 at the Classic will be a three-hour show with a mix of headliners and up-and-comers including Ray O’Leary, Angella Dravid and Tarun Mohanbhai with Brendhan Lovegrove as MC. This is not a family event. Expect vulgarity, profanity, possibly absurdity and, hopefully, hilarity. Tonight, 7.50pm, The Classic, 321 Queen St. Tickets $30 from eventfinda.co.nz

OUTDOORS EXPO

Pauanui is a bit like the Cape Cod of Aotearoa, a place where the rich and not-that-famous have their holiday homes, so it is the ideal location for The Great Outdoors and Bach Life Expo. It’s an event where over 80 exhibitors present wares that will help you pimp your summer. There is marine, outdoor, sport, and leisure equipment on display as well as food and amusements for the whanau, so you can make a day of it. Today, 9am, Kennedy Park, Pauanui. FREE

CAFFEINE AND CLASSICS

While the cats are away, the remaining Aucklanders will play. With Auckland almost cleared of those pesky residents who create the traffic and hustle and bustle that make our city sometimes a little stressful to live in, the City of Sails is positively dreamy at this time of year. While Caffeine and Classics will be on as usual, we predict a much smaller and more relaxed crowd, so your coffee will arrive quickly and you can meander among the classic vehicles at your own leisurely pace. Tomorrow, 10am, Smales Farm, Takapuna.

SONS OF ZION AND FRIENDS

At the time these pages went to print, tickets were still available for Sons of Zion, Tomorrow People and Victor J Sefo at the Whitianga Hotel. It might be almost New Year’s Eve but it’s sure to be a roof-raising good time and if you can’t party every night over these couple of weeks, when can you? You can sleep in 2019. Tomorrow, 6pm, The Whitianga Hotel, 1 Blacksmith Lane, Whitianga, Coromandel. Tickets $59, from tickets.ticketspace.co.nz

YOGA BY THE BEACH

You don’t have to be relaxing in one of Aotearoa’s most secluded beach towns to be chilled-out over the New Year break. Head down to St Heliers for Yoga By The Beach and move your body while enjoying that iconic view of Rangitoto. Follow it up with a coffee and walk along the boardwalk and you’ve started your weekend out blissfully. If you miss a session, don’t worry, it’s running until March. Today, 8am-9am, Vellenoweth Green, Tamaki Drive, St Heliers. Koha accepted.
