Coromandel resort operation

Management rights for the 70-unit Oceans Resort complex, one street back from the white sands of Buffalo Beach, Whitianga, are being sold by ABC Business.

ABC’s Warren Chamberlain, says the resort has been a hit with tourists and visitors over the previous 12 years.

“At present only 28 per cent of apartments in the complex are in the letting pool, which obviously provides plenty of growth potential for a new owner,” he points out.

“The park-like grounds include a heated swimming pool for yearround use, a tennis court and goodsized children’s playground, while plenty of room exists to park a boat and the resort also offers boatwashing facilities.”

Chamberlain says the modern complex, at 18 Eyre St, comprises one-bedroom; two-bedroom and two-bedroom-plus-sleepout accommodation options.

Each one has the space one would expect in order to enjoy a pleasant and memorable beach-side stay.

“Between them they cater for the majority of people needs.”

He says business systems have been refined over the life of the operation.

“The Ezy Rez booking system, which was installed some years ago, allows for a more streamlined process. This works alongside a wellpresented modern and user-friendly website, providing potential guests with all the information they need to make an informed decision.”

This business would be ideally suited to a working couple, though, a new owner could manage solely, employing contractors to maintain the grounds to the high standards expected by apartment owners.

“They say location is key and that certainly applies here — you really couldn’t have better in my view,” says Chamberlain.

“Many families who return to Oceans Resort year-after-year, do so because they can step from a comfortable apartment and take a short stroll to Buffalo Beach, Whitianga Wharf or the town centre.”

The reception and conference facility is licensed for 70 guests and fitted with a commercial kitchen.

The kitchen is primed for growth, for example, ready to provide breakfast and coffee on the patio, which could increase the profitability substantially over the peak season.

“Oceans Resort is an ideal base from which to explore the sights and attractions of Mercury Bay and the famous Coromandel Peninsula,” adds Chamberlain.

“The famous Lost Springs are right on the doorstep, with private rear gate entry provided.

“Meanwhile, Hot Water Beach and Cathedral Cove provide additional destinations for outings. The many diverse beaches and the fishing grounds the Coromandel offers, mean you can simply drop your boat in at the nearby ramp or take one of the fishing charters on offer.

“Whether you are in this vibrant region for a relaxing escape, or an exhilarating adventure, this idyllic location has something for each member of the family.” says Chamberlain.

Coromandel tourism is strong at present, with booming Christmas arrival figures a reminder of just how popular the region is becoming.

“Nearly half a million people visited the Coromandel over the Christmas-New Years period, a study shows. Forty three per cent were from Auckland with 22 per cent coming from overseas.”
