Pet project: Kennels business up for grabs
Positioned on the outskirts of Gore, Pukerau Boarding Kennels and Cattery is a three-hectare grassy oasis for furry clients to stay and enjoy while their owners are away.
The business and the residential property also on site are being brought to the market by Peter Gouverneur of ABC Business Sales for the first time in over 25 years.
“It’s a great home and income opportunity,” says Gouverneur. “It’s not often you see a business like this in a nice rural setting but close to town.”
The business prioritises the welfare of their animal guests, with the current owners of 25 years priding themselves on the cleanliness of their facilities, premium food, and personal interaction with all of the animals.
There are large exercise yards for the dogs, all securely fenced and grassed for animal protection and enjoyment. Dogs are teamed up with their perfect playmates, or exercised separately if required. The kennels have under floor heating with individual controls, to cater for each dog’s unique requirements.
The building is very well insulated which keeps it cool on hot days and warm through the cold winter months. Each dog is housed separately, in most instances, unless from the same family. All dogs are exercised daily in a large grassy area, usually for two hours each time, weather permitting. Exercise is normally in social groups, with groups chosen according to the individual temperaments of the dogs. Dogs will also be walked once a day down quiet country lanes. Dogs are fed premium food and are fed separately in the comfort and safety of their individual accommodation.
“There’s three hectares of lush green paradise, nice mature trees and room for dogs to run their hearts out,” says Gouverneur.
Cats are given individual attention. It’s a communal cattery and each cat gets daily exercise in the play area. The aim is for the cat to have a stressfree time whilst he or she is there. As well as boarding kennels, they also offer Doggie Day Care with a pick up and delivery service in and around the Gore area
The cattery is a 36m2 building, with approximately 40 cages surrounding an internal exercise area in the middle. It is all self-contained, and has a small outside area for the cats to additionally play in. Capacity of the housing is 40-50 cage.
The main kennels can accommodate up to 40 dogs at any point in time. The floor is individually heated for each run.
Included in the sale price is the 1980s two-story owners’ residence.
