Home for your adventurous spirit

A new village is coming to life in the heart of Central Otago, set on a wide-open, sunny plateau in a landscape that’s untouched by time.

-

Mt Cardrona Station is a first for New Zealand, an alpine village that’s designed to nestle into the landscape it inhabits while evoking the rich pioneering history of days gone by. It’s private yet not remote, in a secret ‘hidden spot’ above the Cardrona Valley between Queenstown and Wanaka.

Buying a section here isn’t all you get — because every parcel of land comes with an exclusive ‘right to roam’, unlocking private access to 371ha of surrounding station land that will never be developed.

Sections also come with some delightfully unique and very special luxury experiences. In the beating heart of this new community lies The Homestead, a thoughtfully-designed hub of exclusive world-class resort-style facilities available to every homeowner.

Not only is this land being nurtured by a team of landscape architects and ecologists who understand the need to maintain and enhance its rural values for generations to come, but a world-class trail builder has designed 30km of hiking and biking trails, crisscrossing the station for access to hidden pockets of valleys, streams and tawny grassland.

The Ridges is the latest village neighbourhood to come on the market at Mt Cardrona Station. The Ridges sections are elevated to maximise mountain and valley views, backing directly onto a reserve and with the benefits of a modern village centre just a short stroll away.

Walking and biking trails on the doorstep add to the peace and tranquillity of this premium neighbourhood.

The Ridges will be sold in three releases, all proudly bearing the name of prominent Cardrona Valley founders and pioneers.

Of the 26 sites, the first 11 to be released are Enright’s Ridge. The Enright’s story began in the 1870s when four siblings arrived from Limerick, Ireland. Youngest brother Tim made Cardrona home with wife Bridget and their three children, and their descendants still live and work in the valley.

The Ridges is a showcase of modern rural living. Lots offer superb flexibility, with options to buy as land only and design your own home, or use one of three concept designs from the renowned Leuschke Group Architects with the flexibility to adapt to owners’ needs. Owners will have up to five years to build.

Colin Leuschke says home concepts are designed to “settle into the tussock-filled landscape, using as many natural materials as possible while maximising views to the North and South.”

“Our designs are reminiscent, in a contemporary way, of old Otago’s farmyards, sheep stations and mining camps, with their ‘lean-to’s’ and pitched roofs.”

Opportunities to live or stay this close to ski fields are a rarity in New Zealand, but here Cardrona Alpine Resort (home to Olympic gold medal winners Zoi Sadowski-Synnott and Nico Porteous) is right on the doorstep along with Soho Basin and Snow Farm. Treble Cone and Coronet Peak are within easy reach.

The Homestead facilities and unsurpassed yearround access to the outdoors and winter snowsports have proved drawcards for many buyers to date.

The Homestead will feature all-day dining and workspaces and meeting rooms for remote workers, hot pools, a gym and workout spaces and an indoor swimming pool. The Club Room will be a private lounge for owners, the perfect social hub following a day spent skiing, hiking or biking. Future facilities include a ski and bike workshop and ski area transfers.
