2.14 Mob chases police officer to top of stairs near Senate chamber. Officer lures armed rioters away.

2.24 Rioters open east side door of rotunda. More people flood in, overwhelming officers. House abruptly recessed. Members told to get under chairs and use tear gas masks if necessary. Crowd outside building grows larger and more violent, beating police.

6pm Riot police finally clear Capitol grounds, almost four hours after mob first entered building.

6.01 Trump tweets again, referring to those at Capitol as ‘great patriots’.
