HAMMER ATTACK

Police are hunting for a weapon used on a man who was attacked in his home on Saturday. Police say at about 9pm on August 20, a man was outside his home on

San Prospero Crescent when he was approached by another man. The man followed the homeowner into his house on the proviso of having a glass of water but then attacked the homeowner with a weapon thought to be a hammer, Acting Detective Sergeant Carl Fowlie says. Police are searching for the weapon. After hitting the victim the offender took the homeowners mobile phone and left. The offender is described as caucasian, early to mid-30s with a goatee beard. He wasn’t known to the victim. The homeowner has been released from

Waitakere Hospital after suffering a minor head injury. Police ask anyone who witnessed the events or found a hammer-like tool in the area to contact Henderson Police on 09 837 9511 or call Crimestopp­ers anonymousl­y on 0800 555 111.

ELECTION CANDIDATES ERRORS

A Whangarei man, Vince Cocurullo, was mistakenly placed on the list for election to the Waitemata District Health Board. Ross Dallow was subsequent­ly removed from the Waitekere Licensing Trust candidates list and is not standing for reelection.

LOTS OF CANDIDATES

The Whau is the equal most hotly-contested ward in the city this elections. Incumbent Ross Clow (Labour) is up against five other candidates for the one seat, they are: Mark Brickell (Auckland Future), Wayne Davis (Shadbolt’s Independen­t), Anne Degia-Pala, John Hubscher (United Future), Duncan MacDonald (Community First).

Auckland has moved up to eighth in its quest to be the world’s most liveable city. Among the top 10 cities ranked by the Economist Intelligen­ce Unit, Auckland rates first equal for education, third for environmen­t and culture, fourth equal for stability, eighth equal for infrastruc­ture and tenth for healthcare. The city came ninth overall last year.
