Influx of students for Te Atatu

-

The Government will invest in a $3.7 million expansion for Te Atatu Intermediate School to cater for an influx of students.

The school’s roll is expected to nearly double, reflecting the ongoing population growth on the peninsula.

Principal Noelle Fletcher says with an influx of housing the community has changed over the last few years.

‘‘There are now way more families living around here. There’s a real mix of people living in the peninsula now and everyone gets along. It’s really nice place to be,’’ she says.

Te Atatu Intermediate’s redevelopment will see a new twostorey block built containing six learning spaces.

The number of students in the school has increased from around 290 in 2012 to around 330 this year. This is expect to jump to 360 next year. The re-development will support a roll of 400.

Four learning spaces on the second floor will be used by Te Atatu Intermediate, while the two spaces on the ground floor will become the new satellite for the Arohanui Special School.

Arohanui currently operates out of a relocatable building on the intermediate’s site. This building will be removed once the new two-storey block is completed by the middle of next year. There will also be improved drop off and access areas for Arohanui.
