Exploring the female form
FLAPS is a play that celebrates whatever’s down south.
Don’t say you haven’t been warned.
FLAPS is a play about the female experience of life and it unashamedly contains nudity, sexual content and strong language.
And if taboos don’t bother you, there is a good chance you are going to rave about it.
Presented by the Bits and Pieces Ensemble the theatrical performance is a a ‘‘devised play’’, which has been put together by more than 24 collaborators, five cast members and two curators.
Alice Kirker is one of the producers of the show.
She says FLAPS is a very much a ‘‘tongue-in-cheek’’ play and although the cast and crew are all women, it is most definitely an outing that men would enjoy as well.
‘‘It is made up of 20-30 vignettes that flow together to make one show. It does not have a single story line.’’
Kirker says the play takes ‘‘those girly conversations’’ that women have in seclusion and puts it on stage in a play.
‘‘You will see women being really honest about their bodies. There are no taboos. It’s just females talking about their sexuality.’’
Essentially, she says, it is the experience of being a person with a vagina in the 21st century.
FLAPS at the Basement Theatre August 23-27 at 6.30pm. Book via iTicket.
