RECYCLING BINS

-

By now, most people would have received their flash NEW 240 litre recycling bin. Much has been raised through the Western Leader, to the pro’s and con’s of these new bins. I received my new bin at the end of June, and had it sitting out the front of my place waiting for the wednesday pick up by Council. I waited, and waited and was still waiting by the 24th of July. It just sat there, saved by non collection. I have a lot of concern for our elderly, who I think would find these bins full a struggle to move if any hills or long driveways. I rang Council on three separate occasions to find out when they were picking up the bins to empty. Was told on the last call that they were giving it priority, what a joke, took another week. So my NEW bin sat outside for more than three weeks, and yes they are bulky. I cannot for the life of me, see how these great big bins are an asset for recycling? Then I get a letter from council ‘‘Dear valued customer’’ the old bin can be used for the NEW subscriber rubbish collection. Council out to sting MORE money from me! Then in the Western Leader in Public Notices, the Waitakere Refuse Transfer

Station are changing the prices and hours. They want you to separate your rubbish before you take it to the station. We need to go back to our original system. It wasn’t broken.
