LEAVE THE BUNNIES ALONE

-

What ghastly cold hearted people we have when it became acceptable to annihilate rabbits from Waikumete cemetery.

My dad would have loved the idea of having bunnies dancing and burrowing around his grave.

He wanted cabbages on his grave instead of flowers, sadly I didn’t plant any, but how the bunnies of the area would have loved that.

My family love animals so I hereby give full permission for bunnies to occupy my piece of land at the date of my eventual demise.

The thought of shooters picking off bunnies, destroying their families and desecrating this place of peace is of real concern.

In my opinion guns should never be permitted in city areas for any reason.

Bullets can ricochet and go anywhere and there are a lot of people in and around the cemetery at all times.

Leave the bunnies alone. They have been driven out of their natural habitats by development.

Houses and shops have gobbled up their land and we face even more losses as the unitary plan proceeds relentlessly. BARBARA BURNSIDE TITIRANGI

ANIMAL SHELTER

I want to express my dissatisfaction with the service at Henderson Animal Shelter.

In late December last year, I had several friends who were thinking of adopting a dog in the new year and I thought I would go and see what was available at the local shelter, something I have done in the past resulting in successful adoptions for family and friends.

Firstly, I was told that I was unable to enter the area where the dogs were kept and a staff member said if I wanted to look at dogs I ‘‘should go to Animates’’.

Then after I filled out the necessary forms, staff said that because I have two cats, there were no dogs available for adoption.

So the poor dogs do not get a new home because ‘‘one of them had attacked a cat’’, a staff member said.

Even if I didn’t their may be cats on my street that they could attack, so how are the going to control that?

Staff at the Henderson Animal Shelter were rude and judgmental.

As a rate payer, we are paying for this service and I believe these people’s lack of customer service skills could potentially be leading to many other animals not being

SIGN OF THE TIMES

It saddens me that beggars have to use this method for survival, however I have lived long enough to be aware that there are some people out there who abuse the generosity of the public to try and right the wrongs in their life.

Hard times hurt low income people and it is resulting in more and more beggars.

Our governments seem to me to be refusing to accept that the poor will always be in our society due to people being born into troubles or with limitations.

I believe they need to provide people with more assistance than is currently on offer so that they are able to cope with the walk through life with a bit of self pride and usefulness.
