You may have noticed changes in the Western Leader in the last few months. While we are, and will remain, a community newsroom we are tackling some more tricky issues.

But with this change comes the chance that we may offend some people, and mistakes that we may unintentionally make can be more serious.

We are committed to being open with you about our processes and how we come to write our stories. But if you think we have got it wrong, we are happy to hear from you about it.

There’s a little text box to the right of this column which details how complaints to the Western Leader need to be made. And this process goes for our stories that are published on stuff.co.nz.

You need to come to me first, and give me an opportunity to fix mistakes or talk through why we have done a particular story in a particular way. If you are not satisfied with my response the next step is the Press Council, an independent industry body.
